Steyn On Demographics

Mark Steyn gave a speech arguing that world demographics bode ill for the west.

Much of what we loosely call the western world will not survive this century, and much of it will effectively disappear within our lifetimes, including many if not most western European countries.
I’m not entirely convinced by his argument. Somehow I doubt muslim women who have grown up in England will accept the imposition of a Sharia Law that deprives them of all their rights. But there might be some loss of freedom as the Islamic population grows and the non-Islamic population dies off.

I have to admit, I am glad America does not have many muslims. Most muslims are peaceful, rational people, I'm sure; but the higher the number of muslims in a country, the higher the number of radical fundamentalist muslims.

Most doomsday scenarios like this don't work. Despite the problems in the world, the long-term trends are pretty positive all around the world.

Thanks for linking to this. It's a good article. Here is a link to a version that appeared in The Wall Street Journal.

I think the battle will be won by the good guys, though. I think the multiculturalists were not met with real resistance for many years. Now, on the other hand, they're met with intellectual resistance. The bad part is that the resistance is largely by conservatives like Steyn, who like to throw family and abortion into the mix.

I think you're right. Steyn also takes a shot at Britney Spears because she looks like a slut. I'm still trying to figure out why that's so bad...
