Around the World Wide Web 82

1. The Mayor of Batman, Turkey is suing Warner Brothers for using their town's name. The case is being followed closely by the mayors of Conan the Barbarian, Finland, Plastic Man, Uzbekistan and Captain America, Nigeria.

2. Cafe Press has a line of Impeach Obama gear. He's not even president yet. Needless to say, he has not done anything to deserve impeachment. This is just partisan politics hatred combined with the urge to be the first kid on the block to wear a hip new t-shirt. This is the kind of thing I would expect from the left. Disappointing.

3. This will cheer you up.

4. Recently in my day job I listened to an Urban station that celebrated Obama's election as President by playing clips of guests explaining why they supported Obama. Most answers broke down to two reasons:

a. It will be historic to elect an African-American president.

b. Obama makes us feel hopeful.

One person got specific and said that Obama would give everyone health care. (How does he do that? Is he magical?)

John Ziegler has interviewed Obama supporters in How Obama Got Elected. It is astonishing how ignorant people who depend on the MSM for news are.

5. Victor Davis Hanson has interesting thoughts on the death of the media and on recession.

6. Funny. They go down like bowling pins at this wedding.

"Obama makes us feel hopeful."

Which is like the title of one of his books, The Audacity of Hope. That's how great things have always been accomplished, by people sitting around hoping for something good to happen. Our President inspires a nation to become like Mr. Micawber, and hope something better will turn up.

I'm more in line with the David Bowie line: "Hope, boys, is a cheap thing."

Hoping and wishing won't make it so, Mr. President.

Typical right wing lunatic. When the Far Right does something stupid like print up tee shirts calling for the impeachment of a man who's still two months away from becoming president, it still becomes a referendum on the behavior of the left.

How's about impeaching the two bloated jackals who've been turning this country into a Randian toilet for the last eight years?

Its amazing how Leftists can say something this disconnected from reality and think it is profound. I don't see how equating Bush with Rand can be done honestly. There is some psychological motive behind this that I don't as yet grasp.

By calling for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney for something they have not done, Jurassicpork makes my point. It's something I expect from the left.

Maybe the psychological motive is just the hatred of self-interest and capitalism. People have a tendency to label something as the extreme embodiment of something they don't like. Thus if you hate capitalism then you will hate Ayn Rand. I think liberals use Ayn Rand as an all purpose surrogate for anything even remotely connected to capitalism. So Bush lowered top tax rates by 3% and every now and then used some free market rhetoric (which he betrayed countless times) and because of this he is a capitalist and therefore a disciple of Ayn Rand. Its non-essential associational thinking which I would bet anything is the product of a terrible pschyo-epistemology but I don't know enough on that subject.

Nevertheless, I am always dumbstruck when I hear liberals say or write things like this. And they have the arrogance to call themselves the "reality-based" community!

Hey Myrhaf, remember my HBL post about Obama the "blank slate" that you reposted here?

It seems that even some of his followers are starting to clue in. Check out these Glen Greenwald quotes from here:

"So many progressives were misled about what Obama is and what he believes. But it wasn't Obama who misled them. It was their own desires, their eagerness to see what they wanted to see rather than what reality offered. "

"But there is no question that Obama has inspired among many Democrats a type of deep and intense loyalty that is personal to Obama rather than grounded in policy issues, that many see him as much more than a politician who will make good political decisions. That gives him far more latitude to do what he wants -- far more power -- than the average politician has."

As it seemed to me during the campaign, Obama's followers -- the ones exhibiting messiah-worship -- appear to be be much further down the road to Fascism than Obama himself (or any other politician) is, yet.

Ahem: "community-based reality" is more like it.

This is just another data point that confirms that humans are just like any other animal in the fact that they act upon instinct.

That aside, do you notice that during the "debates", the candidates didn't ask each other their own questions of their own choosing? It is almost as if the Presidency wasn't really a sovereign co-equal branch. Instead a member of the "official media" determined what questions and what topics were discussed. As if the MSM, the Ivy League, and the publik skool were actually the real sovereign!

You do realize that Obama barely beat Clinton, don't you? The problem is that the Republicans had no plausible candidate to run this year. McCain/Palin didn't lose because Obama was so amazing; they lost because their campaign was so poor, so lacking in ideas, so obsessed with attacking over stupid nonsense. Throwing around words like "socialist" was a waste of time.

It's funny how biased people are. I'll bet you think you're not. How about John McCain and the "illegitimate black child" we learned about in in South Carolina in 2000? How about the Swift Boating of John Kerry that occurred a few years later?

Some Obama voters were polled and sounded pretty dumb. Do you think that Ozark mountain McCain supporters would sound any more clever? It seems that a large number of them and Southerners were certain that Obama was Muslim.

You are just another political fundamentalist on the Web, trying to prove that those who share your political ideology are better people. Your ideas are trite.
