Maxine Nightingale, "Right Back Where We Started From"
Abba, "I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do"
Yvonne Elliman, "If I Can't Have You"
KC and the Sunshine Band, "Get Down Tonight"
KC and the Sunshine Band, "Keep It Comin' Love"

I'm straight. No, really. I'm straight.
(You'll note that "I Will Survive," "YMCA" and "It's Raining Men" did not make the list. I have standards.)

I wholeheartedly agree with these choices:
Maxine Nightingale, "Right Back Where We Started From"
Abba, "Dancing Queen"
Abba, "I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do"
Yvonne Elliman, "If I Can't Have You"
KC and the Sunshine Band, "Get Down Tonight"
Bee Gees, "Stayin' Alive"
The Delfonics, "La La Means I Love You"
Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, "The Love I Lost"
The opening words in "The Love I Lost" -- Teddy's first words in the song -- probably one of my favorite moments in music.
You've got good taste in music, Myrhaf!
ABBA! I just love ABBA! "Fernando" is my personal fave.
That's a good list.
What about Stevie Wonder?
Signed, Sealed, Delivered? Sir Duke?
I love ABBA! I can hardly wait for the movie to come out this summer. In addition to the "always makes me happy" poppy dance music, there will be Colin Firth. I could hardly ask for anything more!
Stevie Wonder is brilliant. I would not say my list is exhaustive -- there's too much great stuff.
Abba is, dare I say it, fabulous. I love any group with beautiful vocal harmonies: Supremes, Ronettes, Beach Boys, Beatles, Mama and Papas, Fleetwood Mac, B-52's.
Actually, Stevie Wonder would not belong on this list because these are songs I feel kind of guilty about liking. I would never say around my hard-rocking friends, "Don't you love the Bee Gees?" They would give me a startled look and inch away from me. But Stevie Wonder has more respectability; I don't feel guilty about liking him.
Ah, yes. I should have recognized the guilty pleasure aspect of the list immediately and that Stevie Wonder does not belong to this category. Commonly, I just forget about him.
I think ABBA is fabulous and I'm not afraid to shout it out loud!!!
(I do feel guilty, without the pleasure, of being unable to apply an html code correctly, however.)
I grew up listening to 1970s pop music on the radio. Re-listening to it now makes me realize that a lot of why I continue to like some of these old songs, some of which you have to question why you ever could have liked them, is that they hold a lot of sentimental value: they conjured up many good memories, especially with friends, from your youth.
Sure, when I was younger I certainly was concerned that my friends shared my love of everything from Led Zeppelin to Deep Purple to Black Sabbath might think I’m a little AC/DC for liking Bee Gees and Blondie songs. But as I grow older I care less and less about such concerns. I can proudly appreciate everything from Yes to Frank Zappa to Frank Sinatra to Dvorak to U2 to Sam Cook to the Rolling Stones to Return to Forever to Carole King to Beethoven. A good tune is a good tune, no matter whose playing it.
(Okay, I never liked Wham! – but if I didn’t I’d own up to it—well, maybe.)
You're the first straight guy I've ever known who likes Abba and the Bee Gees. It must be because you're an actor. But you don't have to emphasize that you're straight. Just saying that you don't like "I Will Survive" proves it. That's the anthem of every self-respecting fag who survived AIDS.
