"As a freethinker and an old-style atheist, he had a need to discourse from time to time on lofty matters." (from The Village of Stepanchikovo by Fyodor Dostoyevsky)
So far the nine votes have all been for the great ones -- Coolidge, Churchill, Thatcher and Goldwater. Too bad this poll is laughably unscientific; if it represented the wider American opinion, the battle for freedom would be won.
I voted for Churchill but I see the other voter picked Coolidge.
ReplyDeleteI voted Coolidge. As Mencken said, he slept for eight years in the White House, which is preferable to what FDR did.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Coolidge before I saw that you did!
ReplyDeleteI picked Goldwater. His influence on both Reagan and Gingrich is unmistakable, although a strong argument could be made for Reagan.
ReplyDeleteNow if I had to pick the most important political figure of the 20th century, I would probably have to choose Lenin.

ReplyDeleteMyrhaf,
ReplyDeleteIf this poll were taken among Americans today, you would get 40% for Reagan, 40% for Clinton, and a smattering for everyone else. :P
